Shadows was a devised ensemble piece created for the 2025 APAC Theatre Festival in Kobe Japan, centering on the fears and monsters that hold us back from becoming who we are meant to be. Three students amidst exam prep are drawn into a magical alternate reality, each confronting a different kind of fear: fear of the present, fear of the future, and fear of the past. When shadow figures begin to appear, their anxieties take physical form, forcing them to face the monsters they’ve created within themselves.
As a co-deviser and performer, I helped shape both the narrative and visual world of the piece. Using fabric projections, layered lighting, and stylized dance, our ensemble transformed fear into something tangible: a living entity made of motion and shadow. The play blurred dream and reality, exploring how ambition and insecurity intertwine.
At its core, Shadows asked one question: when our greatest obstacles are the monsters within, how do we learn to overcome the monster?
