Burn

Category:
2024 Fringe Festival Production

Role:
Director

Burn was a musical performance first conceptualized in 2021 during second wave of Covid-19 during quarantine by Sam Garrote. The piece began as an exploration of female character tropes in theatre, how women are written, perceived, and often confined within familiar narratives.

In 2024, with the loss of our original crew I took on the revival. As Director my team reimagined Burn as a Theatrical Exhibition for Fringe Festival, building on that original idea to highlight four powerhouse women from modern musical theatre: Nina from In the Heights, Jenna from Waitress, Regina George from Mean Girls, and Eurydice from Hadestown.

Each of these characters carries her own story of being overlooked and yearning for freedom. Together, they form a collective voice that questions the limits placed on women and reclaims the space to burn, break free, and begin again.

This production was a collaborative effort filled with the heart and resilience from Hao Hsu, Simona Dell, Judy Xu, Kirk Holland, and Austin Wong.
